Ohio Base Guide

   Wright-Patterson Air-Force Base located right outside out of Dayton, is Ohio’s fifth largest employer. Established in 1918, Wright-Patterson is the largest operating Air Force Base in the United States. With more than 30,000 airmen, contractors, and civilians, this base is well-known for its pivotal discoveries dating all the way back to the Wright Brothers.

Museums 

   Explore the local museums and take in the culture by visiting The National Museum of the US Air Force located in Dayton. Here you’ll find almost 400 aerospace missiles and vehicles on display, which makes it the largest aviation museum in the world! This museum is open 7 days a week and offers free admission daily! Another engaging attraction is the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. This museum offers several exhibits that focus on the accomplishments and discoveries of the Wright Brothers. You can watch a short film about their lives as well as visit their mansion, Hawthorn Hill and their original bicycle shop. These sites are all National Historic Landmarks and great places to add to your bucket list! 

Family Friendly Activities 

   The area surrounding Wright-Patterson has several engaging things to do with the whole family! The Dayton Art Institute is just a short drive away and offers stunning art exhibits, as well as youth classes and summer camp for the little ones. If you have thrill seekers in the family, visiting Kings Island is a must. This amusement park not only has several roller coasters, but its also home to a large water park with 36 water slides! Kings Island also offers a great military rate on tickets. For the days you just want to enjoy the outdoor scenery, visit one of the many nearby Metro Parks. 

Local Sports 

   For the sports lovers, you’ll be thrilled to know that you’re only an hour away from Columbus and Cincinnati. This opens endless doors to cheer on the local football, baseball and even basketball teams. Visit the well-known Ohio State Horseshoe stadium to support the Buckeyes or see a Cincinnati Reds game at the Great American Ball Park. 

Whether you’re new in town, or just passing through, Wright-Patterson AFB, and the surrounding areas offer many activities and exciting attractions you’ll be sure to enjoy!
