Tips on Researching the Best Movers

8

We seem to know the feeling of pure panic all too well when the dreaded “PCS season” rolls around. Whether you’re gearing up to move a few states over or planning a cross country move- finding a moving company that meets your standards needs to be a number one priority. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the different moving companies available but with a little bit of research and planning, you’ll be able to schedule a smooth move!

Research, Research, Research!!

As soon as you find out you need help moving, it’s best to start planning right away. I always take that time to reach out to local spouse pages and read reviews online for personal experiences. This has always seemed to ease my mind when choosing a company because I know exactly what I’m going to get. It’s also a good idea to take note of all large, abnormally shaped, and expensive items you may have to confirm that the company can handle your goods. Knowing the requirements for your move will help speed up the process for weeding out the companies that don’t meet your needs.

Compare Prices

Once you have your list narrowed down to a few select companies- make sure to get multiple estimates! This will ensure you’re not only getting a reasonable price, but will also give you the chance to hear each company’s moving plan. The cheapest option may seem like the best choice but be very careful you’re choosing a reputable company that can complete your move in the most efficient way. Speaking with several companies will also give you the chance to confirm they are insured and a registered moving company with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Understand all terms of your contract!

Making sure you understand all the terms in your moving contract can save you a big headache down the road! Be sure to know how they handle claims and disputes (and required time frames), as well as their insurance information. Knowing their terms for filing a claim/dispute will help relieve some stress if the situation comes where you need to create one. You’ll also want to confirm all your information, such as, to and from addresses, delivery window, and inventory sheet-as well as high value items!

Hiring a moving company to help you during an overwhelming move can seem like a daunting task…but if you take the time to research, compare prices, and understand your contract- the company you chose will be able to provide an easy and trustworthy service to help transition you to your new home!
