Spring cleaning and decluttering a home be it an apartment or a house has plenty of benefits. For one, you can find items that you may have thought were lost. As well as a chance to declutter your home as well as your mind while you clean. Also, it can close a chapter in your life nicely while you prepare for a new one by moving to a new home. And, decluttering/ deep cleaning your current home is an easy task that is worth it, just for the positive feelings it will give you at the end of it all.
You know how to clean a house, but do you know how to deep clean it? Of course, you do. First, you would want a home cleaning plan. The first thing on your list is to pack while you clean. This can make your life that much easier since you will be mopping two puddles with one mop. Therefore, you should start with one room, and then go to the next one when that one is done.
We should suggest starting with the smaller room just to get the home cleaning going. This can be the study or a bedroom. However, if you have children, then leave their room till the last one so that they have space to escape to while the whole process of cleaning is happening.
Start from the top to the bottom when deep cleaning. This includes the window. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the cobwebs in the corners, and around the whole edge of the room. Also, down the edges of the walls. This can also be applied to the windows.
Furthermore, make sure that you turn off the lights so that you can clean the fixtures on the ceiling, including around a ceiling fan. You can use a broom or a dry cloth just to give it a wipe. Regarding the windows, use two clothes: one that is damp and the other to dry it. Also, remember to clean the outside of the window as well. For the curtains, you would need to take them down before you start the cleaning process so that they can go into the washing machine.
Clean your furniture before you start cleaning the floors so that the dust can land on it. Make sure that you clean the sides of the furniture as well as inside of furniture. Also, empty out the cupboards, dressers, drawers, etc. This is so you can pack your items as well. But, remember to leave the important items out or put them in a travel bag. And, also you can find little things that have been lost in the depths of the drawers or the corners of the cupboards.
However, if you are planning to move with the dresser then you may not have to empty it. You can take out a drawer, give it a wipe and pack it as it is. Items and all that is inside it. But, if you plan to sell it, then giving it a decluttering clean could help improve its salability as well as make sure that you leave nothing behind.
When these items are empty, take a damp cloth and wipe the inside. From the back to the front covering every inch of the space including the top of the shelves. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to clean the mattress. Make sure the head of the machine is wiped well as you do not want to spend the germs and dust from it on your mattress. Including the sides, and the bottom.
Clean and declutter the home in extreme detail. You can also move stuff out of the room when it is clean to make more space and make the process of cleaning easier.
When you have cleaned all the items in the room, you can move onto the floors. The first thing you should do is vacuum the corners to remove the cobwebs, and dust there. While you are cleaning a room you may have to empty your vacuum cleaner a few times. Take a damp cloth, and wipe the skirting which connects the walls to the floor. Be prepared for dust since it tends to build up here.
If you have a carpeted floor, then you would have to use the bristles of your vacuum cleaner to get all the dirt as well as the dust out of it. If it is a wooden floor, then you can use the vacuum without the bristles. However, regardless of the floor type, you would have to take off the head of the vacuum to clean the corners.
With a wooden floor make sure that you use a cloth to clean the sides of the floor. And vacuum. This will make it easier to get close to the edge. And, vacuum the whole floor first to remove the dust. Then you can use a mop to mop the rest of it, to give it a shine. You can just use water or water with a little bit of cleaning liquid. You will also need to move furniture away to clean under it, this includes the bed frame.
Repeat the top-down cleaning process for the other rooms. When you clean the study make sure that the electronics are out of the way in another room so as to not get dust in them, or water on them.
While we did say that you should start deep cleaning with a small room, the bathroom should be your next target once you get into the flow of deep cleaning. You would need cleaning liquids to get this done the right way. Bathrooms are known for their germs, and you want to clean as much of them out as you can. Give the toilet a good clean inside and out, as well as the tubs and showers.
You should start the whole deep cleaning process a few days before your moving date to give yourself enough time to get deep into it. Plus, when you clean the tubs and showers then they will need a few days for the surfaces to settle. That is the main reason to clean the bathroom as early as you can. Also, clean the walls even if they are tiled.
To clean the sinks (even for the kitchen) you can use cheap, white vinegar. Just close the sinkhole and pour some to cover it. This will lift up the buildup of chloride from the water. Also, hold your breath, and take out the hair inside the sinks.
The kitchen has a lot of items in it. And, it is packed with cupboards as well as drawers. The drawers you cannot take with you to your new home. Therefore, you would have to empty them out, and give them a clean. You should also clean your plates, bowls, pots, forks, knives, etc. and pack them when you are done cleaning them.
This can make the packing process more fluid since you will not be backtracking. However, make sure you leave a few items out for you and the family to use. People got to eat. Plus, it is easier to clean a few items than multiple sets.
You can use cleaning solutions to get the area clean. For the refrigerator, you should unplug if it has a freezer attached. This is so that the ice can melt. But, be aware that it can make a watery mess. Also, make sure that you throw out food that has gone off or donate the ones that you will not have time to eat.
Cleaning the kitchen, you can vacuum a bit to get rid of dust. However, the kitchen is much more of a “get on your knees and wipe” type of deal. Much like the bathroom. Wipe every area, corner, insides with a cloth that has some cleaning solution on it. And, finally, give the floor a good mop.
The whole idea of spring cleaning and deep cleaning is to declutter, as well as… clean. Therefore, you would have to clean the whole home, top-down, in detail. All the edges and everything you see and do not see (under the furniture). And, the sofas.
However, before you get to making them look new, you should first dig inside them to see if anything has fallen between the cushions. This can be the clichéd items of change or even better earrings, or toys, or whatever decided to make the inside of the sofas its home. Once you have checked and dug around now you can get to vacuuming it. Use the bristles, and get everywhere on the sofas. However, you would want to check if the material can handle this.
You can also opt to clean the washing machine inside and out. And, if you are feeling generous you can give the backyard a little trim if need be. Furthermore, also mop the patio. This may seem odd but it too needs a clean even if it is outside. The idea is to close off your current chapter nicely, and a deep clean goes all over the home, not just the inside.
And, if you have single carpets, give them a vacuum too. Certainly to get rid of the hair that builds upon them. When you have cleaned the whole home, top to bottom, edge to edge, and have cleaned all the items you plan to take with you, or to sell, or to donate, then you are more ready to move. Just do not forget to clean the kid’s rooms before the moving day. And, pack it up while leaving out their favorite items to take with them for the transit. Speaking of moving…
The chapter of your current home may be in the process of closing if you are planning on moving. However, before you start cleaning your home you would have to organize your move. And, Shyft can help you with that. We are a fintech company which is a moving organizer. This means that we take on the tasks that people do not like doing when planning a move.

It is during this call that your Move Assistant takes down your inventory list before you pack your items away. This list, your list, is sent to you within half an hour from the conclusion of this very first call. Here is where you give the “go ahead” when you are happy with the items on your list.
The Move Assistant then takes your list, and your moving details to present them to our (Shyft’s) secure bidding platform. Here is where experienced, verified, moving companies gather to bid on projects. From here we will bring you over three moving quotes from different moving companies. All the moving quotes are fixed meaning there are no hidden costs to surprise you. It is here that you choose the one to work with.
Therefore, we will help you do your inventory list, and find you trusted movers that have all their licenses in order, so you don’t get to choose a scam moving company.
