Client Success. What defines a client success story at Armed Forces Insurance (AFI)? As I continue to look into this, I am finding success goes beyond just writing policies, taking premium payments, and answering questions for AFI’s members. In any business, it is true that making sure the day-to-day aspects of a business are taken care of and daily interactions with future and current members are important to be successful. What I want to continue to explore is client stories that truly define success at AFI.
You may remember last month I wrote about a story that Brian at AFI shared with me. Brian was able to assist a military family who was in a really sticky situation regarding their new home. The family needed a homeowner insurance policy ASAP to avoid delaying the closing on their home which would have forced them to make temporary living arrangements which can get very expensive. Brian was able to work into the evening and found a solution to get them taken care of and into their new home. You can read that story here. A Recent Client Success Story (milhousingnetwork.com)
I wanted to follow up last month’s blog by continuing to look at client success stories. I decided to change direction and reach out to the claims department at Armed Forces Insurance. I thought that would be a great spot to continue to look for success stories. I spoke with Sheryl in the AFI claims department and asked her the same question I asked Brian: What defines success for her at AFI?
She explained that unfortunately, homeowner or personal property claims can and will happen. Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, all of us face the uncertainty of not knowing when we will have to use our insurance. You purchase insurance to protect you and your family’s financial situation in the event something bad happens, but you hope you never have to use your policy. Sheryl explained that is why she is at AFI, to help people through their most stressful and uncertain moments.
I asked her if she had a story of an AFI member that stuck out to her. One where she was able to come in and essentially save the day. A true success story. Though she thinks most of her interactions with the members are successful as she helps them with their claim situation, one call has stuck with her over the years.
Three to four years ago, Sheryl had a claim from a member that came across her desk. A military family was in the middle of a DITY move from Virginia to California when the unthinkable happened. One of the worst PCS nightmares they could have. Their moving truck caught on fire. Apparently, the vehicle’s axel overheated and lit the back of the truck on fire causing the entire moving truck to go up in flames. Included in that truck was nearly everything this family owned. This situation was truly devastating.
Thankfully, they made it out of the moving truck in one piece. However, this put them in a serious bind as the only personal property the family had left was that what they took with them in their personal vehicle. Everything was gone in an instant.
After the initial panic and chaos of the situation, they had to start putting their lives back together. The family made a call to AFI and submitted their claim. This claim ended up on Sheryl’s desk. Seeing the severity of the claim and life altering event that had just occurred, Sheryl immediately went to work for the family. This was not a lost ring, this was everything the family owned, gone in an instant.
Within a very short period of time, Sheryl was able to assess the situation, and start the process of getting the insurance funds to the military family. Not only did the need money for new belongings, but they also needed money for hotel and food to eat while this got sorted out. Sheryl was able to get this family into a temporary living situation while they sorted out the details. Since all of the furniture, beds, and cooking items were gone, they needed a place to stay until that could be replaced.
The family who had lost everything was able to start replacing everything within days and they were able to begin to move into their new home. Sheryl was sad that she could not help to replace the memories, she was at least able to help the family recover by getting them new property and clothing for their new home. Considering the situation, the disruption to their lives was kept to a minimum.
Sheryl explained that situations like this is why she shows up to work every day. The ability to positively affect people’s lives is very rewarding for her.
It is good to know that those working in Sales & Service as well as the Claims department at AFI are there to take care of their members, both with the ordinary, and the extraordinary.
